Script Race

Scriptwriting is a powerful tool to shift cultural perception and celebrate the beauty in our differences.

Rules & Guidelines 2023

All submissions must adhere to the 2023 Lexme Script Race Competition Rules & Guidelines.


  • The Grand Prize Winner will receive £1,000. 

  • The Lexme Special Award will receive £300.

  • All cash prizes will be disbursed 30 days after the winners are announced.


Submissions for the scriptwriting contest will be evaluated by a panel consisting of representatives from "Lexme.Red",  experienced film educators from prestigious film schools, and accomplished by the international team of independent screenwriters. 

The panel's collective expertise will ensure a fair and thorough assessment of all entries.


  • All submissions must be original, and the sole property of the applicant(s).

  • You must be over 18 years of age to be eligible.

  • Must be in English.

  • Scripts must be between 1-15 pages in length. 

  • The story contains a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5 characters and the main character must represent LGBTQIA+

  • The story may feature a maximum of 4 locations, excluding large,  crowded, and complex private venues.

  • You may submit a script once. You may not submit the same script more than once.

  • All script entries must be uploaded in PDF format.

  • Under absolutely no circumstances will substitutions of either corrected pages or new drafts of the entry script(s) be made. Scripts will not be returned.

  • If a submitted script becomes optioned, produced, or purchased between the time of submission and the end of the judging period, that script will no longer be eligible

  • Competition judges, readers, and representatives of the Lexme Script Race Competition, past and present, and their immediate friends and family members are not eligible to enter.

  • Previous winners of the Lexme Script Race Competition are not eligible.

  • Scripts, including outlines, treatments, pitches, log lines, or any developmental material related to the script, that has previously won any contest, competition, grant, lab, fellowship, mentorship, reading, or award of any kind, are not eligible.

  • Screenplays that have been submitted to any competition or contest prior to February 15th, 2023 are not eligible.

Schedule & Other details

  • Opening Date: February 15th, 2023. 

  • Submissions Close Date: April 15th, 2023.  

  • Competition Results Announcement:  Finalists - April 25th, 2023; Winners - May 05th, 2023.

  • Contestants must agree to sign a contract before receiving the official cash prize if they win the contest. The contract will state that the winning script must be used for the next production of Lexme.Red.

  • Submission of an application constitutes agreement to these terms and conditions. Failure to sign the contract before receiving the prize will result in forfeiture of the cash prize.
