Federico Cianferoni

Director

Federico Cianferoni (he/him) is an Italian director. Born and raised in the Tuscan countryside, he got into the entertainment industry when he was 4 as a young actor for the film ‘Con gli occhi chiusi’ by acclaimed director Francesca Archibugi. He began his career as screenwriter and director of short film ‘Night Butterflies’ (2014), screened at the first Florence Short Film Festival.


The next year he wrote and directed his second short film ‘Monde Ayahuasca’ (2015), inspired by a long trip to Perù. This film was selected at Cannes Film Festival 2015 Short Film Corner and won the Public Choice Award at Florence Short Film Festival.




In 2016, he worked in Rome as assistant director of Lamberto Bava on his film ‘Twins’ on an international set (Gerard Depardieu in the cast). In 2018, he directed a fashion film ‘How far is our first kiss’ for designer Francesca Liberatore (official selection at RD Fashion Film Festival and Porto Fashion Film Festival), and a documentary on Gianfranco Ferré ‘Identity through Ferré’ (in collaboration with Fondazione Ferré and produced by Domus Academy and Art+Vibes), bought by RAI Premium and winner of People's Choice Award at Milano Fashion Film Festival and Best Documentary at Bokeh International Fashion Film Festival.


In 2019, he wrote and directed the short film ‘Milo&Olivia’, which was acclaimed by audiences and critics during the screening at Action! by Domingo Communication in Milan, and was also in competition at Roma Cinema Doc Festival 2020.


In 2020, he worked on ‘Don’t touch here’ which had Maxence Dinant as the main actor in this thriller inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe aesthetics. The film won Best Indie Short Film and Best Costume Design at the Las Vegas Film Festival 2020.


In 2021, he directed the documentary ‘Les Amateurs’, in competition at Los Angeles Italia Film Festival and screened during the 78^ Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica La Biennale di Venezia at the Venice Production Bridge, and also at the prestigious Premio Libero Bizzarri in San Benedetto del Tronto.


Federico also wrote and directed the short film ‘Roman Youth!’ with Michele Favaro and Alan Cappelli Goetz that has screened in competitions and won awards in many festivals around the world (Lovers Film Festival Torino, Kashish Film Festival Mumbai, One Fluid Night in London, Digital Media Festival in Rome & more). ‘Roman Youth!’ also found an international distribution with GagaOOLala, the biggest streaming platform for LGBTQI+ content.
