Bassem Ben Brahim

Filmmaker & Activist

Bassem Ben Brahim is a Tunisian queer filmmaker and LGBTQ+ rights activist. Graduated from the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts, Nabuel in image design, in 2017. He obtained his professional master’s degree in editing in 2019, as well as a research master’s degree in audiovisual sciences and techniques and cinema from the École Supérieure de Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel, Gammarth, Tunis (ESAC). He worked on his dissertation research on queer representations in Tunisian cinema, and aspires to explore this theme in greater depth as part of his doctoral thesis.


Between 2019 and 2022, Bassem shot the short films: ‘Chromophobia’, ‘The Red Fish’, and ‘Nidhal’, mainly addressing themes related to gender identity, LGBTQI+ struggles, and feminism.
